Surgery
Soft Tissue Surgery
We perform all common soft tissue surgeries on dogs and cats as well as on small mammals and reptiles in our practice. In addition to castrations of male and female animals, this also includes operations on the gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract and tumor operations.
-
Cesarean sections for dystocia, removal of the uterus and ovaries for inflammations (pyometra) or tumors, vaginal tumors
-
Surgeries of the gastrointestinal tract (e.g., foreign body removals, intussusceptions, bowel resections, gastric torsions)
Surgeries of the urinary tract (e.g., bladder stones, urethral stones, kidney lesions, tumors)
-
Tumor surgeries (following prior diagnostics to ensure optimal surgical removal), including not only skin tumors but also operations for tumors of internal organs.
Bone Surgery
Orthopedic and bone surgical procedures are also offered in our Clinic. These include cruciate ligament rupture surgeries and fracture treatments. In addition to dogs and cats, we also treat Small Mammals, reptiles, and birds. Please schedule a consultation appointment for this. In collaboration with Dr. Nikola Heblinski, more specialized procedures such as patellar luxations and TPLO for cruciate ligament ruptures can also be performed in our Clinic.
-
In our Clinic, we offer cruciate ligament rupture surgeries using the Meutstege technique with capsular imbrication. This technique does not require implants but is not suitable for all cases. Furthermore, we offer the TPLO (= tibia plateau leveling osteotomy) technique. Please schedule a consultation appointment.
-
We offer surgeries for simple bone fractures using intramedullary nailing or an external fixator. For more complex fractures, plate osteosynthesis can be performed in collaboration with a specialized colleague. Please inquire at the Clinic; we will be happy to advise you.
-
In some cases of injuries or tumor diseases, it is also necessary to amputate limbs or tail sections. These operations are also performed in our Clinic.
-
Patellar luxation is a common cause of lameness, particularly in small dog breeds. It is usually based on a congenital predisposition. Whether your animal requires surgical correction of patellar luxation depends on the degree of the condition and the presenting clinical symptoms. Various techniques are used during surgery to stabilize the kneecap.
Anesthesia Procedures
In our clinic, we place great emphasis on individualized anesthesia management tailored to each patient.
Depending on the patient (species, breed, age, pre-existing conditions) and the procedure (duration, pain level), an optimal anesthetic is chosen to ensure a safe depth of anesthesia and a rapid recovery. During anesthesia, our patients' vital functions, such as oxygen saturation, blood pressure, ECG, and core body temperature, are monitored with a modern anesthesia monitor.
-
We primarily utilize inhalation anesthesia, particularly for high-risk patients and extended procedures. With this method, after intubation, the patient inhales a mixture of anesthetic gas and oxygen. Inhalation anesthesia provides significantly greater safety due to the excellent tolerability of the anesthetic agents and the precise control over anesthetic depth and rapid recovery.
.
-
Anesthesia management tailored to the individual patient is also very important for small mammals, birds and reptiles. Inhalation anesthesia is the focus here, as it ensures a quick awakening for animals with a fast metabolism (birds and small mammals), but also a good depth of anesthesia for our patients with a change of temperature (reptiles).
-
In addition to inhalation anesthesia, we also employ specialized injectable anesthetics in certain cases. These ensure a short duration of anesthesia, as all active ingredients are fully reversible.
The specific requirements for anesthesia vary depending on the type of procedure, and these are met through the combination of various medications.
