Pet Surgery

Surgical care may also be necessary for rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, rats, chinchillas, mice, and other pets. Many owners are reluctant to take this step because of the increased risk associated with anesthesia in these animal groups. Some people have personal childhood experiences with their pets undergoing surgery.

There have also been some changes in how anesthesia is managed for pets! At the Sonnenallee Veterinary Practice in Neukölln, pets are examined individually before surgery and assessed for their anesthesia risk. This allows us to plan and administer anesthesia tailored to each patient and procedure. During the procedure, rabbits, guinea pigs, and other small animals are also closely monitored, and their anesthesia parameters are recorded. An intravenous line facilitates the precise dosing of anesthetic medications, ensures safety in case of complications, and allows for intravenous therapy during the procedure to stabilize circulation. All patients are positioned on a soft, warm pillow to prevent them from getting cold.

Patients receive oxygen, and gentle inhalation anesthesia is possible.

In our state-of-the-art operating room at the Sonnenallee Veterinary Clinic, we regularly perform the following surgeries.
